Project "PHYSICS for EVERYBODY"

Aim: To increase the popularity of physics in schools and strengthen the ties between physics and the society.

Beneficiaries: schoolchildren and students from all grades, university students, teachers, parents, local authorities, representatives of local community and media. The project offers PHYSICS FOR EVERYBODY.

Project description: The project envisages the realization of activities aimed at the spread and the popularization of physics' knowledge which is important for the development of science itself, the application of physics in innovative technologies and the importance of physics for the development of society.
The activities will be organized by the Union of Physicists in Bulgaria (UPB) and its branches. They will be carried out at different levels and with different partners. For this purpose, we intend to work in partnership with the bulgarian journal World of Physics . We will use some Facebook group accounts: Group of teachers of physics and friends in biology, chemistry, mathematics and informatics (over 1000 members), group My teachers , Media partner of the project is the national publishing house for science and education "AzBuki" .

The journal World of Physics is the official printed edition of the UPB. It publishes original and review papers in all branches of physics including scientific papers from leading Bulgarian scientists in topical scientific areas, modern technologies, history of physics, information about new books, the interdisciplinary relations of physics and other sciences, activities of the UPB in promoting sciences and improving science education etc.
On the project webpage, brief information in Bulgarian and English about the activities of the project and illustrating pictures will be uploaded. This will allow the EPS to follow closely the work in progress.

The project activities:
The main project activity "Physics for everybody" will be organized and carried out on 3 levels: local (schools), regional and national.
I. In the schools, the physics teachers will organize "Days of the Physics" which will include the following activities:
  A. Experiments for the very young (those who had not studied physics yet), in order to generate an interest in the subject. The experiments will be attractive, acting upon the senses and the emotions of the children in order to wake their curiosity and interest and make them share their experience with friends and parents.
  B. Competitions, conferences, lectures, meetings with scientist, discussions and presentations with the pupils which already study in order to deepen their interest in the subject.
  C. Series of lectures "World of Physics live" by the journal "World of physics", the department of physics at the University of Mining and Geology "St. Ivan Rilski" and Sofia Library . Prominent scientists will give talks and lectures on important topical subjects in modern physics. One more innovative component of the project is the joint activity between a journal, university department and a popular library, which encompasses a much larger audience and will have a long-term effect.

In this way the project activities will include schoolchildren of different ages, students, university lecturers, teachers, parents, representatives of the local community and will have an impact through experiments, talks and lectures. It will really provide Physics for everybody. They could become a constant feature after the projects has run its course.
II. The project gives opportunities for some implementations on a national level
  A. It provides for an expansion of the scope of publications and readership of "World of physics" through a new rubric "Teachers forum". This will enable teachers to popularize and share their positive practices and raise their qualification.
  B. The project includes increase in publications about good and innovative pedagogical practices and research activities of teachers, students and university students presented at the Youth's Sessions at the annual National Conferences on Physics Education.
  C. We envisage an increase of the circulation of the journal They will be sent to schools and libraries thus reaching a broader audience.
  D. Public lectures during the National Physical Conference on problems of education in physics.
